Sea Island Arts Fest

On Sunday, September 29, 2019, 1 – 6 PM, the James Island Arts Council in collaboration with the Town of James Island will host the Sea Island Arts Fest to benefit James Island art education and enrichment programs and the James Island Outreach food drive.

A Vibrant, Creative and Cohesive James Island.

James Island Arts Council (JI Arts) seeks to promote art forms that transcend boundaries, foster dialogue, and enhance the cultural experience of all James Islanders for a more vibrant and cohesive James Island.

Our Projects

Silent Art Auction

Our annual Silent Art Auction draws attention to the wealth of Island talent, cultivates a local buyership for fine art, a public performance venue for our fledgling and seasoned musicians, and raises money for the arts to thrive in our Island schools.

Sea Island Arts Fest

Our latest venture, our Annual Sea Island Arts Fest, is a community-wide celebration of all things Island Arts, from art to dance to music, including promotion of nonprofits in our area. At each event, we are holding a James Island Outreach food drive to bring in food for James Island and Folly Beach residents in need.

Future projects include ongoing cultural events at the beautiful, new James Island Town Hall, an innovative storytelling series set to roots music and dance, partnerships with local schools, churches, civic and senior organizations, promotion of culturally-aware local and commercial businesses and their positive influence on community art development, mentoring of the Island’s young and emerging artists by professional artists, and the creation of an Island Cultural Center. We are applying for grants and have achieved 501(c)3 status for fundraising purposes. It is our goal to secure and manage sufficient resources to advance the arts in our communities for all to enjoy.

Besides recently being voted World’s “best”, “friendliest” and “prettiest”, in 2017, Travel & Leisure Magazine ranked the Charleston area the No. 1 City in the U.S. & Canada for the 5th consecutive year, exceeding other destinations in the categories of sights/landmarks, culture/arts, restaurants/food, people/friendliness, shopping and value. Yelp ranks Charleston #1 City in U.S. & Canada for economic opportunity and National Geographic recognized Charleston as a top U.S. Community with the most green space. Our Sea Islands and artistic communities contribute to a growing part of that national ranking.

Our Supporters

We applaud the steadfast, generous support of the Town of James Island. We are proud to work with you as James Island continues to evolve, economically and culturally. Many thanks to the City of Charleston, Charleston County and the Town of Folly Beach for your support and encouragement. With our new 501(c)3 non-profit status, we hope to continue our collaborative efforts to bring the highest quality art and entertainment to our citizens. James Island merchants have generously supported our efforts through cash and in-kind contributions, we hope this support will continue as we grow, and we urge our community to choose to do business with them first.

Past grantors to JIArts include Town of James Island, City of Charleston Office of Cultural Affairs, the Charleston County Parks and Recreation Commission, Telecom for Change, the Poetry Society of South Carolina, and the National Endowment for the Arts and the SC Arts Commission through South Arts.

We wish to especially thank the numerous individuals who donate to JI Arts to keep the arts alive and thriving, and uplifting to all.
